I’ve heard that if you run and weight lift, running takes away most if not all the muscle you’re gaining, does that actually happen?

    No, lots of people run and lift.
    If you run marathons you are not going to increase your mass, but normal, that is sane running will help your cardiovascular system and general health.
    You can increase your mass while running.
