Just like most of the women I know, I want to lose weight. The desire is quite common among my friends and me that we decided to do something about it together. Instead of standing back and thinking about how much I want to lose wieght, I decided to enlist some help.

Using the buddy system is a great approach to diet and exercise. My friend and I used to meet for lunch or for happy hour. Now that I want to lose weight like the rest of the crew, we are now meeting for brisk walks and trips to the local gym. There are plenty of options out there and I didn’t know about them until I decided that I want to lose wieght.

Having a good support system is crucial to our success. We work together to make sure that we keep a healthy pace during our walks. I know that when I want to lose weight that I have to keep my heart rate up for at least 20 minutes. When I walk alone I tend to stroll and lose the necessary stride.

There is also an appeal in the sense of competition among the group. Of the four of us, I think that I want to lose weight the most. However, I know that we are in a subtle competition that occasionally rears its ugly head in a good kind of way. Soon we will be having weigh-ins and maybe even prizes but for now losing the pounds is enough.

Meeting with friends over some cocktails is also really fun and on occasion I think that we should indulge in a night out on the town. I want to lose wieght so bad that I will probably offer to be designated driver during the special night out. This will save a lot of calories.

There are other things to consider when working towards a goal like this. I want to lose weight so bad that I am thinking about supplementing my diet and exercise with supplements to help things along. This can be the extra boost that will make the process easier.

The supplements come in many forms and choosing a certain brand might be a little difficult. I want to lose wieght enough to do some serious homework and explore my options. After all, we do have a subtle competition going. I know that the other ladies are already taking supplements.

Did you know that each hour in each civilised country, at least five men die from conditions that are potentially preventable? Or that men live on average six years less than women?

According to the Australian Medical Association, many men treat their health as a low priority while they juggle the competing demands of work and family life. Apparently, men often adopt a “functional view” of their bodies. Only when their work, play or exercise is below par, they understand there may be a problem. Another fact is that most men stop visiting doctors regularly between the age of 20 and 45. By the time the begin visiting GP’s again, their ailments are more chronic in nature!

Prevention and early detection are key! To prevent and mitigate risks of obesity, diabetes, cancer, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, etc., there is a thing you can do: an annual men’s health check! This is the best advice I can give you, as it will most certainly help you to maintain and protect your own health.

According to my own Sydney based men’s health specialist Dr. Rob King, the main objectives of a men’s health check/assessment are:

To improve and maintain your wellbeing in the short and long term. To ensure you maintain your physical independence in the long term. To prevent the onset of disease, including cancer. To detect disease early, including cancer.

According to Dr. Rob King a complete men’s health check should cover the detection and prevention of:

Nutritional imbalances. Excess body weight. Disease of your heart and arteries (cardiovascular disease – build-up of plaque in your arteries). High blood pressure (hypertension). Abnormal blood fats (dyslipidaemia). Abnormal blood sugar (insulin resistance/pre-diabetes/diabetes). Prostate problems. Weak bones (osteoporosis), calcium and vitamin D deficiencies. Screening for cancer, in particular skin, testicles, prostate, bowel. Sexual difficulties, in particular erection and ejaculation problems (optional). Sexually transmitted infections (optional). Immunisations.

Most large medical centres offer health checks and there are specialized men’s health check centres in most large cities around the world. They’ll do a full health check and provide you with advise on how to improve your health. It will all be on a strictly confidential basis! A men’s health check will take you at least 1 to 2 hours and will cost approx. $300-$600 of which you can claim a large part from your health insurance. A lot of employers do have agreements in place with external health and wellbeing providers, so just ask internally if your employer can arrange and fund your annual health check.

To find a men’s health check specialist near you, just Google “men’s health check” with your location to find a specialised centre near you.
Please do yourself a big favour and schedule a health check appointment on the short term. It is one of the best health investments you can make!

Make this a Positive & Fruitful Day….unless you have other plans!

Thanks, warm regards & success,

I want to lose weight. I want to lose weight quick. How many calories should I eat to lose weight? That answer depends on many factors, there is no magic number, if you will. A person’s daily recommended caloric intake for weight loss will depend on such factors as height, current weight, fat to muscle ratio, etc. However, there are some general rules of thumb that do apply.

If you are wondering, “How many calories should I eat to lose weight?”, a great place to start is to find your personal BMR (basal metabolic rate). There are many BMR calculators available online that will do these calculations for you. This calculation will give you the number of calories you will need in order to maintain your current weight. From here, you can decide at what rate you would like to lose the weight and subtract calories from this number. To lose one pound, the body must be deficient of 3500 calories. A person can deduct these calories either through exercise or by deducting calories from their daily food intake. By simply cutting 250 calories from your diet each day when figuring how many calories should I eat to lose weight, and walking moderately for 30 minutes five days per week, you can lose at least one pound per week.

Cutting at least 250 calories from your diet each day should not be difficult. If you are a soda drinker, a great way to cut out those calories is to skip a can of soda per day. Sodas are full of sugar and chemicals and are com plete empty calories. This means that they only do harm to your body. Sodas have absolutely no nutritional value. Skipping the fast food line is also an easy way to cut the unwanted calories and fat from your diet when deciding on how many calories I should eat to lose weight. It is common knowledge that fast food is laden with fat and unneeded calories. Instead, opt for fresh salads, small amounts of proteins, and small amounts of complex carbohydrates like brown rice. If you do splurge for fast food, order the smallest burger on the menu and remove the top half of the bun. Instead of greasy fries, order a side salad, and instead of a soda, opt for water instead.

As you can see, “How many calories should I eat to lose weight?”, is a question without a simple answer. There are many theories floating around out there that do not force a person to count calories, but most of these theories lead to fad dieting, which is unhealthy and unproductive.

The good news is that it is fairly simple to calculate how many calories you need to consume in order to lose the weight in a healthy manor. As long as you remember that you need to delete 3500 calories in some way, shape or form from your body to lose a pound, you can easily figure what foods are worth eating and which ones you need to steer clear of. Once you learn to eat in moderation and exercise regularly, the weight will start to come off. Weight loss is not a crap shoot, it is simply science.
